Birth Prayer

Goddess of Life and Death and Life again,

you whose loving kiss rekindles

our memories of the Summerland and whose embrace

is the last and first thing we ever know-I call upon you,

in this place, to watch over this mother

and to bless this child to be.

You through whom all things are possible,

I ask you for your assistance with this birth;

comfort the mother and protect this unborn child.

In all your names,

I ask for your blessing upon this.

Father, Lord of the Gates of Death and Life,

I ask for your blessing upon this new life

we seek to bring into the world.

 

God of Light and Darkness,

who dances in the twilight, grant this child and its mother

the strength to make this first journey into the world.

Bless this mother and child with your protection during

this very special time. Grant me, as a father now myself,

the wisdom and patience I will need to raise a child

to know your presence, and to choose their own path in freedom,

and in love and trust. Guide my hands, my words,

and my deeds that I may shape this new life with

integrity, honor, and compassion.

This I ask in humility and sincerity, oh God of my ancestors,

great one of many names and many places.

So Mote It Be.
